FORT JENNINGS – Catherine M. (Macke) Kahle, 95, of Fort Jennings, passed away 11:40 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born April 22, 1927, in St. Henry, Ohio to the late Ben and Gertrude (Heulsman) Macke. On August 30, 1947, she married John H. Kahle, who preceded her in death on November 23, 2019.
Survivors include nine children: Robert (Jane Biening) Kahle of Kalida, David (Jane Bonifas) Kahle of Kalida, Thomas Kahle of Columbus Grove, Joan (Glen) Koenig of Miller City, Kathleen (Jack) Runner of Sandusky, Ken (Carol Sealts) Kahle of Kalida, Laura Siefker of Columbus Grove, Glenn (Theresa Plumadore) Kahle of Columbus Grove and Mark (Marlene Leursman) Kahle of Kalida; 32 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Macke of Sylvania.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Siefker; a grandchild, Christina Kahle; a great-grandchild, Emma McVey; six siblings: Wilbur (Ruth) Macke, Louis (Anne) Macke, Mary (Paul) Stech, Andy (Virginia) Macke, Theresa (Marvin) Bruser and John (Patricia) Macke; in-laws: Rosemary (Vincent) Andreano, Martha (Robert) Wurth and Robert Kahle.
Catherine was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida and its Altar Rosary. She was married to John for 72 ½ loving years. They raised nine children on the family farm, instilling strong faith in God, respect for all and the importance of family. Catherine was known to assist anyone in need. She taught the good Sisters of St. Michael's Parish how to drive a car. She also taught religious education and was a best friend to Sister Theresa. Few had a heart so loving as Catherine. She had the ability to make everyone feel as though they were the most important person in the world. She never had a rose garden but cultivated her own roses (her children) in the home.
Catherine and John enjoyed traveling and spending time on the pontoon boat which John built. Catherine also enjoyed knitting, listening to music and playing on her iPad.
Funeral mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying and Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to the poor of Nigeria at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a memo: Nigerian Fund.
