DAVID ROBINSON
SHERWOOD — David W. Robinson, age 47, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away at 10:05 P.M. on Monday, September 29, 2014, at Mercy Hospital of Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by family and friends, after an extended illness.
David was a 1985 graduate of Edon (Ohio) High School and attended Ohio Northern University, where he played football and graduated with degrees in education and sports medicine. He later received a Master's Degree in coaching. His teaching career began at South Middle School in Lima, Ohio, where he taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade health and physical education from 1990-1998. He also was assistant athletic trainer for Lima Senior High School and coached the girls'softball team. He moved to Fairview High School in 1998 and taught 8th and 9th grade health and physical education. While at Fairview, he was an assistant football coach and then head football coach for five years, coached JV girls' basketball, junior high boys' basketball, started the archery program and currently held the position of Athletic Director. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and Notre Dame football, enjoyed fishing, and was part owner of Birchwood Resort at Douglas Lake in Levering, Michigan. His greatest passions in life could be found in his church, Sonrise Community Church, where he was a board member, and in following and supporting his kids and their sporting events and activities.
David W. Robinson was born on April 11, 1967, in Wauseon, Ohio, the son of Larry A. and Carolyn R. (Forrest) Robinson. He married Tracy L. Birt on July 29, 1995, in Lima, Ohio, and she survives.
Survivors also include his children, Andy, Katie and Stephanie Robinson, at home; his parents, Larry and Carol Robinson, of Archbold, Ohio; three sisters, Lisa (Brent) Trent, of Bryan, Ohio, Kim (Gary) Dannecker, of Petowskey, Michigan, and Kelsi (Kristoffer) Knisely, of Pettisville, Ohio; his in-laws, Ken and Lorna Birt, of Lima; two uncles, Mike and Jeff Robinson; and his beloved dog, Maggie.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 1:00-5:00 P.M. in the Sonrise Community Church, 14089 State Route 249, Ney, Ohio
Services will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Fairview High School Apache Field, 6289 U.S. 127, Sherwood, Ohio, with Pastor Paul Myers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Fairview Athletic Boosters or to the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, at The Ohio State University, 300 West 10th Avenue, Suite 519, Columbus, Ohio 43210.
