LIMA -- Debra A (Debbie Koenig) Staup, died 8-6-22 due to complications from diabetes. Debbie was born 12-18-56 in Lima to Don and Jackie Koenig, who have preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Jim Staup.
Debbie graduated from LCC High School in 1975 and went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for many years helping others in nursing homes and in the community. In more recent years Debbie worked at the Humane Society. She loved working with the animals and with her co-workers. Those who knew Debbie were grateful she lived in a community that only allowed her to have one cat, as she would have opened her home to dozens more.
Debbie lived with multiple physical and mental illnesses and addictions, but through her hard work and support system was able to successfully manage them for most of her life. Although these pandemic years have been challenging for her, she was persisting.
Debbie is survived by brothers Mark (Troy Liston) Koenig of Maynard, MA and Scott (Diane) Koenig as well as nieces Samantha, Hailey, and Kelly all of Lima. Debbie's support system also included her life-long friend Jenny Picker and her recovery sponsor, Rhonda B.
Debbie will be remembered for her artistic needlework wall-hangings, the cakes she baked for those in recovery, her passionate love of her pets and all animals, and mostly for her warm smile and friendly nature.
There will be no services at this time, but contributions in her memory can be made to the Humane Society of Allen County, 3606 Elida Rd, Lima OH 45807. The Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel is honored to be assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
