Don Nungester Obituary

LIMA -- Don Nungester, age 90, was called home at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024.

Don was born in Lima on July 24, 1933, the only child of Roy and Gladys (Stump) Nungester who preceded him in death. On September 7th, 1953, he married Shirley R. (Sliemers) Nungester who preceded him in death on May 7, 2003.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory (Cheryl) Nungester of Lima, and Douglas (Molly) Nungester of Powell, OH; one daughter, Teri (Dale) Frymyer, of Lakeview, OH. Don had 6 grandchildren: Kristina (Adam) Neill, Patrick Nungester, Alicia (Chris) Herbert, Miranda Nungester, Lindsey (Trevor) McGlone and Ashley (Jake) Boyd. He also had 9 great grandchildren: Tyler and Kennedy Neill, Caleb and Addison Herbert, Beckett and Mayzie McGlone, and Alayna, Knox and Dax Boyd.

Don is also survived by two brothers-in-law: Joseph "Benny" Wukusick and F.A. "Jack" Sliemers. He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Mickie Wukusick and Rose Sliemers, as well as father and mother-in-law, F.A. and Cecelia Sliemers.

Don was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army and a graduate of Shawnee High School. He retired from Ex-Cello Corporation and Dana Corporation where he was Treasurer of the Retiree Quarter Century Club. Don was an avid LCC sports fan. He enjoyed volunteering at Lima Central Catholic and the St. Gerard Parish Festival. He especially loved spending time with his family and was always seen working in his yard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 240 W. Robb Ave, Lima, OH 45801. The celebrant will be Father Mike Sergi. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and VFW #1275.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel with a Parish Wake Service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gerard Catholic Church or the Lima Central Catholic Athletic Association.

The family of Don would like to express their sincerest thanks to the nurses and staff of the Homestead and Logan Acres in Bellefontaine for their excellent care of Don during his last years.
