Gary Hardesty Obituary

LIMA -- Gary E. Hardesty, 77, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Rita's surrounded by his family.

Gary was born on August 29, 1947, in Lima to the late James Dewey Hardesty and Elizabeth Jane (Bushong) Fiedler.

On November 14, 1973, he married Carman {Parente}, who preceded him in death on February 8, 2020. Gary was a staff sergeant in the Marine Corps and was a welder by trade.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Adam) Leppert of Lima, Erin Verstegen of Lima, and Kristi (Brian) Roberts of Wayne, OH; grandchildren, Isaac, Madyson, and Aubree; sister-in-law, Joan (Phil) Miller; 10 siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Abigail.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank Mercy Health St. Rita's Cancer Center and St. Rita's Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Health St. Rita's Cancer Center.
