LIMA -- Joseph Hicks, 63, passed away at 12:08 p.m. on May 14, 2024, at St. Rita's Medical Center
Joseph was born on October 16, 1960, in Lima, Ohio to Jackie and Christina Hicks. On May 22, 1982, he married Dawn Jacobs, who survives in Lima.
Joe was a 1979 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He worked for Shawnee Township Road Department for 22 years. He was involved in his community quite a bit, being a Shawnee Township volunteer firefighter and serving on the Shawnee Township Cemetery Board, where he most recently served as President. Joe was often seen at the Cridersville Speedway, where he enjoyed all activities of racing, and recently served as President. If he wasn't at the Speedway, he would be fixing something for someone; but what he loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren, where he would cheer them on in any activity they were involved in.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Jodi) Hicks and Christopher (Abigail) Hicks; grandchildren: Ava, Aiden, Kayden, Isabella, Elise, Tanner, and Myles Hicks; siblings: John Hicks of Zephyrhills, FL., Kathy Nichols of Lima, James (Shawn) Hicks of Alger, and Theresa (David) Meeker of Lima; father-in-law, Ronald Jacobs, and brothers-in-law, Thomas (Mic) Jacobs, and Victor Jacobs.
He is preceded in death by; his parents; mother-in-law, Ginger Jacobs; and brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Jacobs
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at St. Gerards Catholic Church. Father John McLoughlin will officiate. Burial will follow at Shawnee Cemetery, Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family (Dawn Hicks).
