BUCKLAND -- Mark S. Harbert, 76, of Buckland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.
Mark was born on November 28, 1947 in Lima to the late John and Margie (Slentz) Harbert. He grew up in the Spencerville area and graduated from Spencerville High School in 1967. After high school, Mark enlisted in the United States Army. Once he returned from the service, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Holtzhauer on July 25th, 1970. He began working in Lima for Westinghouse which later became Sunstrand and stayed with the company until they closed. After Sunstrand, Beverly and Mark owned Maximum Drivers Training driving school. While teaching drivers education, he also graduated from barber college in Dayton and opened his own shop in Spencerville.
Mark is survived by his two sons, Joe (PJ) Harbert of New Springfield and their children, Tyler (Lauren), Brayden, and Peyton (Josh); Bill (Emily Richter) Harbert of Toledo and their children, Riley, Ryan, Molly, Corbin, and Maverick; two siblings, Craig and Connie; and father-in-law, Maurice "Shorty" Hager. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John and mother-in-law, Waneta "Sweetie" Hager.
He was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and VFW where he proudly was a member of the Color and Honor Guard and the Clown Unit. Anyone who knew him was very well aware of how proud he was to have served his country in Vietnam. He was a member of the Auglaize Buzzard Baiters where he enjoyed flying his airplanes. An avid hunter and fisherman, he especially looked forward to his yearly trip each May to Lake St Clair with his sons and friends. Upon retirement he thoroughly enjoyed spending winters in "paradise," as he called it, which was their place in Clearwater, Florida.
