Delbert Glenn Thurman

1924 - 2014

Delbert Glenn Thurman died unexpectedly on August 19th 2014. Born December 15th, 1924. He spent most of his life in the Lodi area. He attended Lodi High School and was drafted into the army during his senior year 1943. He served in the 10th Mountain Division 86th in North Italy. Earning a Bronze Star. After returning from the service he graduated from Humphrey's Business College with a BA Degree and then worked for Millers Millwork Mart as an office manager and salesman. After 40 years he retired when Millers closed. For 7 years his family lived in Acampo on a 20 acre vineyard that they owned. Delbert's interest were gold prospecting, gardening and participating in gem and mineral clubs. He frequently visited Loel Senior Center and regularly exercised at Twin Arbors Sport Club. He was known for his fitness even at 89 years of age. He regularly shared Sunday morning breakfast with his neighbor and friend Marty Melish. One of his outstanding attributes was his friendly nature.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Harold and Edith (Nunn) Thurman.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose. He was father of Janis Smith (Thurman) of Rescue, CA and Russell Thurman (Cathy) of Citrus Heights. He was grandfather to David Streetman and greatgrandfather to Michael Streetman of Diamond Springs, CA.
