Eleanor Darrow Obituary

Eleanor N. Darrow, resident of Clements, CA, passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 20th, 2007. Ellie, as she was known to her friends and family was born September 25, 1920 in Easton, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Easton High School and continued her college study of fine art under the direction of Walter Emerson Baum in Philadelphia. Oil painting and drawing were her passion throughout life. She had a love for the outdoors and sought inspiration in landscapes and seascapes.
Ellie was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and homemaker. She adored animals, especially her horses and enjoyed horseback riding for many years. Ever the performer, Ellie loved to entertain her friends and family playing the piano and wrote music as well.
Ellie is preceded in death by her son Matthew T. Darrow, her mother Florence May Sykes and her father, William Henry Noble. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Kermit L. Darrow, her daughter Joan L. Ferrell and her husband J. Scott Ferrell and granddaughter Morgan M. Ferrell, stepdaughter Lizabeth D. Evanovich and her husband Samual Evanovich and their two children John and Nichole. Other surviving family includes Robert H. Darrow and his wife Betsy Darrow and their five children.
Previously Ellie was a longtime resident of Santa Cruz County, living in Bonny Doon and was a member of Rotary's Inner Wheel, Omega Nu, and the Santa Cruz Art League.
Ellie and her husband of 47 years built their second home in Clements in 1990 and enjoyed boating, gardening and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of the Clements Garden Club and a member of the Lodi Art Center.
Our family would like to extend deep gratitude to all those who loved and cared for Ellie in the last year of her life. Ellie will be greatly missed. We love you Mom. Funeral Services will be held on April 26, 2007 at 11:00am at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, off Kettleman Lane near Hwy 99, under the big American flag.

Ellie was not only a friend of ours, she was also very entertaining at parties and our Clements Garden club gatherings.
She not only played the piano, she read palms and was a good storyteller.
I remember one hot night she came over in a new silk outfit. She was being very careful not to spill anything on it but she did, and she yelled, " Oh, the hell with it" and proceeded to jump into the pool.
We'll miss Ellie! Dolores Lopez

Dear Neighbor, Here we live so close and yet I didn't know Ellie was very ill! I feel terrible! Please accept our sympathy. I remember us all at the Mexican Fiesta the Alva's had and she was very intertaining and lots of fun! Her family and friends will miss a charming lady and so will we. If I can do anything to help in any way, please call me. Eleanor and Manuel Machado

Ellie was an amazing Lady. Whether she was entertaining friends at her home, on her yachet, at our house, or at a County function, we remember she would light up a room. She would walk in and she would have total command of where ever she was. We will miss her humor, her smile and her zest for life. Gone but we will never forget. Love to you Kermit and our prayers for your family,
