Josephine Francisca Boyd

1930 - 2025

Josephine Francisca Wiggers Boyd, 94, of Lodi, passed away March 8, 2025, at 3am in the comfort of home with family present. She was born March 25, 1930, in Tegal, Indonesia. She married William Philip Boyd in 1950, who served in the Royal Dutch Army based in Indonesia. Josephine survived captivity for three years at the hands of the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, during WWII, before relocating to the Netherlands with her husband. In 1960, she and her family then migrated to the United States through the sponsorship of the United Methodist Church, where she resided most of her life in Lodi, California.
Josephine was a devoted Christian, and set strong examples based on her core values for her three sons who seized the opportunities this country provided. She was a licensed caretaker who generously provided for the community. She also shared her skills in preparing Indonesian cuisine for her family and friends. She loved exploring the diverse landscape of California, inspired by the sense of community that defined her as a Californian.
Josephine is survived by children; Richard Edwin (eldest son) Boyd, of Lodi, and Abraham Maurice Boyd (youngest son) of Walnut Creek. Grandchildren; Joanne Arriolla, Elizabeth Arriolla, Leilani Arriolla. Other family and friends; Hubertus Maximiliaan (Max) Wiggers (Brother) of the Netherlands, Belinda and Yvette Wiggers (nieces), Patti, Grace, Pearl Sittrops (nieces), Victor Boyd (Brother in-law), Randall Boyd (nephew), Jennifer Boyd (niece) of Pasadena, Heidi Boyd (Sister in-law) of San Diego, and Davey Boyd of California. Close friends – Andy & Ies Wiramatjja; Arthur & Rachael Kulling; Jan Baker, Charlotte Bruckner and Steven Townsend.
She is preceded in death by parents; Albertus Bernardus Cornelius Dominicus Wiggers (father) Pien Nyo (mother) her husband William Philip Boyd and siblings; Erland Robert Boyd (son); Elisabeth (Els) Maria Aronds (sister); Gerardus Hendrikus Wiggers (brother); Isaak Jacob Wiggers (brother); and Lizzy Paulien Verlouw (sister).
