With grieving hearts, but also with strength and memories to console us, the family of Robert Nelson Owen of Woodbridge, CA, share news of his peaceful passing on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 27, 1930. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert Barrett Owen and Grace G. Owen, and his sister Jane. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Irmgard Fischer Owen, three children from his first marriage – Shelley (Thierry), Bruce (Paul) and Bob, Jr. (Denise), and three grandchildren – Bastien, Jessica, and Cameron and Brother Harold(Joyce).
Bob attended Hollywood High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Army, and later the Air Force. After his service he returned to California to complete his college education. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Cal Berkeley, and went on to receive a Masters degree in Psychology from CSU San Jose.
Throughout his long career, Bob held many positions in Human Resources. Before his retirement in 1996, he was employed for 18 years as the Director of Human Resources at East Bay Regional Park District in Oakland, CA. After retiring Bob moved to Murphys, CA, where he lived until marrying Irmgard. Bob had many interests. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished bridge player, but his most beloved hobby was woodworking in his garage with classical music playing in the background. Many family members and friends happily received Bob's works of art. Bob was also an active member of the Lodi Elk's Club, serving as the club's secretary for several years and donating many of this woodworking creations to the club for fundraising. Bob and Irmgard loved traveling the world. Together they have traveled to every continent except Antarctica, which Bob felt was much too cold to bother with!
The family would like to thank the caretakers at the Summerfield Memory Care Facility for their loving care Bob received while in their care. We also like to thank Hospice of San Joaquin for the comfort they provided Bob during his final days. It is Bob's wish to have a private inurnment. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of San Joaquin would be greatly appreciated by Bob's family.
