Steven Shinn Obituary

Steven Michael Shinn passed away at the age of 61 at his home with his family by his side, August 6, 2015. Steven was born in Lodi to Jack and Claire Shinn, February 7, 1954. Steven was a life long resident of Lodi. At an early age he began learning to grow grapes and cherries with his father and continued to grow grapes into his late years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Claire Shinn. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Sharon Shinn, 2 sons: Michael Shinn (Kristin) of Lodi and Matthew Shinn (Evonne) of Lodi, 7 grandchildren: Emma, Lauren, Kaleb, Adam, Isaac, Sam, and Kody. He is survived by much loved brother, Bill Shinn (Sharon) of Lodi.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at 1pm Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Temple Baptist Church, 801 S Lower Sacramento Rd, Lodi. At the request of the family, burial will be held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park.
His life is marked by a lasting legacy of deep love for his wife, his family, and the significant friendships touched by the values that made him the great man he was. Steve lived a life of deep faith in Jesus, a constant source of generosity no matter who was in need, of laughter and fun that created a ripple in our community that will be continued by all who he loved and who will forever love him deeply.
Steve chose to live life moment by moment, full of purpose, hard work in his vineyards, serving his church, treasuring his role as a grandfather, vacationing at the coast which was his very favorite place to be. Most of all, Steve modeled what a strong loving man is, especially toward his very best friend, his wife Sharon. Our community has lost a wonderful man, and we know Heaven gained the joy of Steve Shinn and a life that was a genuine reflection of fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and living out his faith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, Temple Baptist Church, or to The Salvation Army. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shinn Family.

Lord our Heavenly Father may the Steve Shinn Family feel your love & strength during this time. I first met Steve in high school. He always had that grin on his face. A very kind person to anyone he'd encounter.. Missing you is the hard part, knowing you're in the next phase of life with Jesus Christ is beyond words..All I can say is Heaven got a lot brighter with your grin & smiling always. God Bless..

Last night after Steve's Celebration of Life, I was sitting in the backyard and the lowest shooting star went right in front of me, the first thing I thought of was...there is Steve. He definitely will be with us forever.

I've told this before, but I believe I first met Steve taking a ballroom dancing class with a bunch of our 8th-grade classmates. He was a kind and patient dancer as we did the foxtrot, waltz, or whatever it was. Much love to the Shinn family.

My thoughts of Steve go back to when we were all very young little 4-H'ers and having the best of times. Our paths continued to cross over the years and he always had the biggest, warmest hug and happiest smile and greeting. What a tremendous person he grew up to be! I will miss him. Sharon, Michael and Matt,
May the Lord hold you and comfort you in the days, weeks, and months to come. Debra Haas , reached out to Steve On my behalf after the sudden loss of my beloved husband Cal. We had a huge travel trailer and I needed to sell it after his death. Steve, not knowing me personally except thru high school many years before, but knowing Cal reached out to me after talking to Debra to offer his help to move my trailer. He even offered to put on their property. That's the kind gracious man he was. Until we see you and Cal again my friend in our everlasting home! Sharon, I hope you and Debra and I can get together. Anytime day or night you need someone to talk to who has lost their beloved husband....please call me. Sally Pitto

We are so very sorry to hear about Steve's passing. Please accept our condolences for your loss. Steve was such a great man to be around whenever we were in his presence. Always lighthearted and with a sense of humor. Always remember those mutton chops he used to sport when I was around him as a kid. He will be truly missed. Some 45 years ago, on a 4-H River Rafting Party, Steve pulled me out of deep, swiftly-moving water a non-swimmer like me had no business being in. I know he made a difference every day of his life; that day he saved mine. RIP Steve, I am grateful to you every day of my life.

When we first moved to Lodi, some 45 years ago, Mr. Steve was one of the first to stop by our vineyard home with a warm "Hi".
Lose a great farmer? You cant just replace a great farmer. You don't just grow a farmer in college!..... College doesn't do that... only the skills passed down thru generations will do that.
I am quite sure he is in a wonderful place where he is the first to greet everyone and growing some great wine grapes to pair with the loaves and fishes!

I remember going to Steve and Sharon's house when I was little with my friend, Christina Seefried aka Warmerdam. Steve was a very accepting person, allowing us to swim, ride the four wheeler and whatever else we found to do there. I am sorry for your loss and may God be with the entire family during this most difficult time.
