DAVID RICHARDSON Obituary

David Richardson, a 40 year resident of of New Rochelle and Delray Beach, FL, died on March 18, 2001. He was 78. Mr. Richardson was born on March 19, 1922 in New York City to the late David and Margaret (Mulgrew) Richardson. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II with General Patton and was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and five Battle Stars. He was a graduate of Xavier Institute of Labor Relations. In 1944 he married Marjorie Christopher. She died in 1998. He is also predeceased by a brother Ronald Richardson. He had a dynamic career with the labor movement and was the Retired Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Nassau-Suffolk County. Previously he was the Business Representative of Local 46 Lathers Union and President of New York State Council of Lathers. Named Labor Man of the Year by Governor Rockefeller and a labor advisor to President Nixon, an Executive Committee member of the Long Island Affirmative Action, Co-Chairman of Jobs for Energy on Long Island. He was a generous contributor to many fund raising programs including the March of Dimes, Heart Fund and in recognition of his philanthropic activities was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws by Molloy College (1984). Mr. Richardson is survived by two sons Robert and David and three daughters Margaret Richardson-Gower, Jean Richardson Lantz and Ann Richardson Hyer. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Brian, Kerry, Timothy, Erica, Kristina, Shawn and James. Also surviving are two sisters Margaret Taxter and Marion Pierson. Visiting will be Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at St. Raymond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY.
