Lawrence Goswick Obituary
Piermont, NY - Lawrence E. Goswick, "Tex", passed away on January 24, 2021, at the age of 91.
Lawrence was born on April 16, 1929 to Richard Lawrence and Josephine Landis Goswick in Weatherford, TX, and moved to Piermont, NY in 1937. After the passing of his father, Lawrence is predeceased by his brothers PFC Jesse Goswick, William, Francis, Harold, and sister Jean, also by ex-wife Cecelia and his lifetime partner Donna Lynch.
Lawrence joined the Piermont Fire Department in April 1945 and worked up through the ranks to the office of Chief three times, 1964-1965, 1975-1976 and 1991-1992. Lawrence was also President of Empire Hose Company for many years during his seventy-five years of service. Lawrence served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, worked for the Robert Gair Paper Company, and the International Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local #15. He worked for and retired from the Village of Piermont DPW and served as the building inspector for the Village of Piermont for many years.
Lawrence played an intricate role in organizing the Orangetown Chiefs Council in 1974. He was the Commander of the V.F.W. Post 7462 in Piermont, NY. Lawrence was a lifetime member of both the NY/NJ and Rockland County Chiefs Associations.
Lawrence is survived by his loving grandchildren, Lawrence, Joe, Cecelia, Jesse, Jason, Danielle, Lauren, and Mike, his great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving children, Genevieve, Jesse, Edward and wife Eleanor, James and wife Jackie, Darlene and beloved stepdaughter Lisa Lynch.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. Empire Hose Co. #1 will hold a firematic service at 6:45pm at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10:30am at St. John the Baptist RC Church in Piermont, NY.
