ROBERT SACKETT Obituary

Robert G. Sackett, 81 of Yorktown Heights, formerly a lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY, died peacefully in his home on May 9, 2008. He was born on January 23, 1927 to Anne and John Sackett in Yonkers. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Letitia (McLaughlin) and his four children, daughter, Marianne and husband Robert Vlad, and sons, Andrew and Deborah, Robert and Nancy, and Michael and Patricia. Also surviving are his 10 loving grandchildren, Robert, Christie, Lynda, Christopher, Nicholas, Andrew, Lauren, Tyler, Madison and Emily, who knew him as Pop Pop. Robert is predeceased by his sister, Rosemary and brothers, John, Victor, Vincent and David. He graduated from Saunders High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Harlequin until 1946. He was a valued employee of 39 years for the NY Telephone Company and a lifetime member and past commander of the Ernest Pasqua American Legion Post No. 1506. He was loved by all and spent all of his time with his family and friends. He loved being at the seashores of Long Island and New Jersey with his family, and enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He also enjoyed local racetracks and casinos and was a devout Yankees and Giants fan. He will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, unending humor and captivating charm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Lighthouse International by calling 212-821-9464 or e-mailing [email protected]. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Yonkers, NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
