Robert G. Torgersen

Hopatcong - Robert G. Torgersen, 82, of Hopatcong and formerly of Nanuet, NY, passed away on Monday February 15, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center.

Born in Eastbourne, England, Robert earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Syracuse University in 1960. He was a member of the American Association of Landscape Architects and had his own business from 1971 until he formally retired in July of 2020.

His hobbies included amateur sports car and sailboat racing, antique boats, and his much loved English Setters. In the late 60's he was a Tech Inspector for Sports Car Club of America at Lime Rock Park and Bridgehampton racetracks. Vacations and weekend adventures always included boats, and he passed his enthusiasm onto his children and grandchildren. Early family vacations were spend camping and fishing from a canoe. He was a long-time member of the Nyack Boat Club on the Hudson River where he sailed and raced his Shark Catamaran and took a turn as the club Commodore. He loved his English Setters and was a member of the Hudson English Setter Club. He personally showed the dogs, many of which earned the title of Champion.

Robert is survived by his wife Roxanne (Sonzogni) Torgersen; children Suzanne Belding and husband Robert, Peter Torgersen and wife Joan, and Sandra Torgersen and husband Jose Ramirez; grandchildren Alexander Belding and wife Brittany, Caitlin Sun and husband Gregory, Brian Belding, and Christian Torgersen; and great grandchildren Lindsey and Marissa Belding.

Friends and family will be invited to attend a memorial celebration of Robert's life in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Robert's memory to the Nyack Boat Club's Junior Sailing Program, 59 Gedney St, Nyack, NY 10960.
