Jack Torgersen Obituary
Jack Lee Torgersen passed from this life on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the age of 79 at his home in Cokato.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Culynn Curtis will officiate. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #6 in Minneapolis at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025.
Jack was born on May 18th, 1945, in Oak Park, Illinois. He grew up in Chicago, graduating from Steinmetz High School in 1964. After graduation, Jack enlisted in the United States Army, where he underwent Basic Training and Cooks and Bakers School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served in the Army in West Germany followed by two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
After his time in the army, Jack attended Waldorf Junior College for two years, and then completed his BA degree at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. He graduated with degrees in History and Religion. He attended Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 1977. He was ordained to the ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Elmwood Park, IL. He served parishes in Marion, ND, Armour/Corsica, SD, Eureka, SD, Estherville, IA, Soldier, IA, and rural Cokato, MN. He also served for six years as a missionary with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, where he became fluent in Portuguese. On June 24, 1989, Jack married Alison Grorud in Dimock, SD. They were blessed with three children. Jack's primary hobbies were reading, knitting, crocheting, and cooking Chinese and Brazilian cuisine.
He is survived by his wife, Alison, and his children, Lars, Julia (Anuraag), and Leif.
