RUTH E. CAPLIN

Ruth E. Caplin, 82 of Stockbridge, MA, fornerly of Larchmont, NY, died September 6, 1999, at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home, in Great Barrington, MA. She was born on September 29, 1916, in New York City, the daughter of William and Francis Rovics Newman. She was educated at James Madison High School, and attended Brooklyn College. She graduated with honors from Ohio State University, Class of 1937. Ruth married Elliott Caplin, in New York City, on January 4, 1940. Prior to raising her family, Ruth worked at the New York office of Leows Theatres. A home maker and mother of three, Ruth was very active in the community. She was a member of the Larchmont Temple, and of the Sisterhood there. She was president of the Larchmont Garden Guild, and active in the Pickwick Bridge League, in White Plains, NY. She was a senior master at Bridge, of the American Contact Bridge Club. Ruth found time to author two best-selling books; Best Recipes of 1953, and Best Recipes of 1954, by Toby Press. Ruth and her husband Elliott, moved to Stockbridge, as summer residents in 1970, and permanently in 1995. Ruth E. Caplin is survived by her husband of 59 years, Elliott, at home; a son, Donald Caplin of Waltham, MA; and two daughters; Toby Caplin of Lexington, MA and Joan Caplin, of New York City; five grandchildren: April, Chris, Michaela, Cassie and Ariel; a great grandson, Tomas; and a brother, Arthur Newman, of Irvine, CA Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at 10:30 am, at the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, with Rabbi Harold Salzman, officiating.
