Wayne Royse Obituary

Wayne was born October 17, 1948 in Portsmouth Ohio to Paul and Fayetta (McCallister) Royse. When he was 11 years old the family moved to the Oceanview section of Norfolk Virginia. He attended Granby High school until 1967 when he enlisted in the Army to attend Helicopter Flight School where he graduated in April 1968 as a Warrant Officer.

Wayne served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam from May 1968-May 1969 with the 114th Assault Helicopter Company at Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta. Returning home, Wayne served as a helicopter instructor pilot at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Wayne received a commission as a First Lieutenant prior to a second tour in Vietnam from October 1971 to December 1971 at Da Nang when he was MEDEVAC'd home due to a knee injury and later stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

After leaving the Army, Wayne served briefly as a firefighter at Norfolk Naval Base and a police officer/pilot at Virginia Beach Police Department. In 1975 he became an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration at Washington Air Traffic Control Center in Leesburg, Virginia until his retirement in 2002.

Wayne's main interests throughout his life were traveling, motor cycle rides across country with biker friends, and golfing with family and friends. He was also an avid reader of books by such writers as Tom Clancy, Joel Rosenberg, C.J. Box and Bible prophecy books by Tim LaHaye, Ed Hindson, and Hal Lindsey.

Since 1991 to the present time, Wayne attended Cornerstone Chapel and Christian Fellowship Church regularly. He also supported a variety of Christian and charitable organizations.

Wayne was also very invested in his family. Survivors include his wife, Christine M Royse; three children, Timothy Ashley (Tammy) of Kettering, Ohio, Cheryl Skinner (Aubrey) of Hillsboro, Virginia, and Anthony Royse (Sarah) of Berryville, Virginia; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Wayne was happily sober for 35+ years.
