Brian Walsh Obituary

Walsh, Brian P.,

49, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 15th after a courageous 33 day battle following an aortic dissection that occurred on October 14th.

"Big Dog", as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was a gentle and kind soul, who loved and was deeply loved by all who knew him. His kindness, generous spirit, and sense of humor were only matched by his smile and handshake. It is so difficult to let him go, but we take comfort knowing he is resting in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

Left to share his legacy in the most loving way is his wife of 25 years, Karen Johnson Walsh; his daughters, Abigail and Grace; his parents, John and Sandra; his brother, Bradley (LeAnne); his mother and father-in-law, Ron and Carol Johnson; his sister-in-law, Lisa Stumler (Eric); his brother-in-law, Michael Johnson (Caroline); and nieces and nephews, Noah Walsh, Alanson, Cole, and Clayton Stumler, Samantha, Ella and Michael Johnson. Brian was dearly loved by a large extended family and more friends than you could possibly imagine.

Brian was a graduate of St. Xavier High School, class of 1985, and the University of Louisville, class of 1990. Brian had a long career in the banking and mortgage industries, most recently working for Commonwealth Capital Mortgage.

Among his many passions, was watching sports with his family and friends, being a loving husband and a consistently supportive parent to his girls, a volunteer AAU basketball coach for the Louisville Jaguars, an avid UofL football and basketball fan, and an unwilling organizer of Friday night family dinner.

While the family cannot thank each of you enough for your love and support, we are aware of the multitude of lives that Brian was able to touch not only throughout this medical crisis, but throughout his life. We want to express our deepest gratitude and love for the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Rudd Heart and Lung Center at Jewish Hospital, who will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Visitation will be held from 12 - 8 PM on Friday, November 18th at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. The funeral Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, November 19th at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Brian Walsh Family Fund in care of any PNC Bank. Online condolences may be directed to www.ratterman.com.

I met Brian years ago while in high school. He had such a wonderful sense of humor and was always smiling. I can actually still remember that laugh even though it has been years since I actually heard it. I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm saddened to learn of your loss.
My memories of Brian are from earlier times before your marriage. The days right from the start when he just seemed to fit in with your family as if he was always there with you. I recall his pleasant, easy way of making friends, of making conversation. Even as a young man he knew no strangers. He will be missed.
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
I wish that I could attend Brian's services, however I am far away in Biloxi, Mississippi. Please accept and express my regrets to your daughters and family.

My prayers and condolences to Brian's family and multitude of friends. I was fortunate enough to get to spend some great times with Big Dog and he treated me like a long time friend. I'll have nothing but incredible memories and know that he's in God's loving presence now. Because of him, I'll forever be a Louisville fan (unless they're playing my Tigers) and cherish the times I was able to spend with him.
