Andrew Gardner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bosse Funeral Home, Inc. - Louisville on Mar. 26, 2026.
Andrew John Gardner, Jr. 79, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

He was born on May 16, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Andrew and Clara Gardner. He grew up in the Highlands of Louisville and attended Saint Francis of Assisi School. He was a member of the Class of 1964 at Saint Xavier High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Accounting from Bellarmine University in 1968 and a lifetime member of Saint Joseph Catholic Orphan Society.

A.J. began his career as an accountant with Lorillard Corporation in Louisville and was later transferred to New York City. While living in New York, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Okinawa, returning home in January 1972. In August of that same year, he married his wife, Brenda, and they shared 53 wonderful years together. After two years in New York, Andrew and Brenda returned to Louisville to be closer to family.

He was a devoted and active member of Saint Martha's Catholic Church and was also involved with Boy Scout Troop 194. Andrew cherished time with his family and enjoyed camping, trips to Disney World, bowling, ice skating, and skiing.

A.J. took early retirement from Saint Michael's Catholic Church to focus on his health and to care for his mother. After her passing, he worked part-time with Regis as an inventory specialist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Gardner Sr. and Clara (Ackerman) Gardner, and his brother, Bernie Gardner.

A.J. is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Kettler) Gardner; his children, Robin Brady and John Gardner (Stacey); his sister, Mary Catherine Wilkerson (Jim); his grandchildren, Jacob Brady, Madison Brady, Nathan Gardner, and Lucas Gardner; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Mueller) Gardner; Roberta Abell Moore (Mitch); Doris Humpich (Len); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison at Barret Avenues on Sunday March 29th, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

A celebration of A. J's life will be held in a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Martha's Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane on Monday March 30th, 2026, at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, 1153 Charles Street at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus Health of Louisville and Saint Xavier High School.

A.J. will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
