Robert Anthony "Tony" Whelan, 79, of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

He was born on July 14, 1946, in Howardstown, Kentucky. Tony was one of twelve children to the late Joseph Edward Whelan and Alice (Spalding) Whelan Boone. His brothers Donald, Guy, Michael, and Martin Whelan and a sister, Claire Yarber, have preceded him in death.

He held a CPA and was the Chief Financial Officer for Publishers Printing Company for over 35 years. Tony was a graduate of Bellarmine College and a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He loved golf, tennis, and above all, his family.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Deborah Niehaus Whelan; daughter, Emily Whelan Parento (David) and their children, James and Maggie; two sons, Adam Whelan; and Phillip Whelan and his children, George and Lillian; brothers Melvin, Eddie, Charles, and John Whelan; and sisters, Mary Taylor and Rosie Rogers and a host of nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
