John Clark Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home - Bardstown on Mar. 4, 2026.
John Wagner Clark Jr., known to everyone as Jack, was born March 4th, 1942 to Jane (Liles) and John W. Clark Sr., both of Louisville. Jack was a 1960 graduate of Desales High School, continuing his studies at Bellarmine (College) University, and graduating with a Bachelor of Psychology degree in 1965. Working for a short time at the Ford Motor Company and reaching the level of Shift Foreman at the Kentucky Truck plant, he would eventually move into the property and casualty insurance industry as a Senior Field Representative with ISO Commercial Risk Services, Inc. (now Verisk), a company from which he would retire.

His passion was the Jefferson County Fire Service (JCFS). He was a 20-year, Lifetime member with the Buechel (now Fern Creek) Fire Department, serving on their Board of Trustees from 1977 to 2007, and as Chairman of that Board from 1983 to 2007. He also served on the Jefferson County Fire Trustees Association, the governing body of the JCFS, from 1985 to 2007, and was Chairperson from 1990 - 2007. All of this work was as a volunteer, but his reward was seeing the Jefferson County fire service grow into a paid force of firefighters that currently serves this community as honorably as he did.

Jack married his high school sweetheart, the late Christine A. (Graf) Clark, in 1965. Together they had three sons: friar Paul R. Clark OFM Conv., Dan Clark (Carmen), and Nick Clark (Gina Vaccaro). Jack's three grandchildren, Corinne, Jackson, and Charlie, have always been a source of great joy in his life. In addition to these family members, he is survived by his sister Beverly A. Clark Alexander (the late Ed Alexander), and nephews John (Dee), Michael, and Rob (Erin).

Funeral Home visitation will take place Sunday, March 8th, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Ratterman Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway Louisville, KY 40217-2498. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 9, 2026 at 12:00 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3938 Poplar Level Road, 40213, with interment following the mass at Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that any memorial expressions be made as donations to The Crusade for Children or to the Conventual Franciscan Friars.
