Andrew Matte Obituary
Andrew Paul Matte, Jr., age 82, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington on Monday, January 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Diane L. (Jones) Eysermans Matte with whom he enjoyed 10 years of marriage and 17 years together.
He was born in Lowell on July 30, 1939 and was the son of the late Andre and Liane (Rochette) Matte.
Andrew honorably served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he opened Andy's State Line Market in Hudson, NH into the early 60's. He later worked as a Meat Manager for Market Basket for several years until he opened The New Andy's State Line Market in 1978 which he operated until 2004. Since 2004, he has worked at Ace Discount Cigarettes in Pelham, NH. Andrew was proud of his heritage and his family's famous French-Canadian recipe for "Rochette's Baked Beans." He enjoyed traveling and visits to the casinos. He especially loved cruises and had fond memories of trips to St. Thomas and St. Martin's Mullet Bay, as well as Canadian cruises with his wife. He will be remembered as a hardworking family man who was incredibly proud of his children.
In addition to his loving wife, Andrew is survived by his sons, Steven Matte and his wife Sherri of Venice, FL, Michael Matte and his wife Vilma of Dracut, and Christopher Matte and his significant other Samantha Matthews of Pelham, NH; his former wife and mother of his sons, Celine (Ducharme) Matte of Salisbury, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 31st from 4pm to 7pm at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10am at St. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, 1340 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, CHELMSFORD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew's memory to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org, Hidden Battles Foundation, a Greater Lowell organization supporting local veterans, at hiddenbattlesfoundation.org, or any charity of your choice. Dear Steven, Michael and Christopher,
I am so sorry to hear that your dad Andy passed away. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up knowing your Dad, Mom and you three boys (goodness we were only 3 & 4 years old except for your Christopher, you were the adorable baby that arrived a few years later). My memories are always wonderful to think back on from the awesome 13th birthday pool party your Dad and Mom threw for me with 2 birthday cakes, music and lots of fun. We built that club house behind your pool house and your dad had materials for us, playing basketball for hours outside your home. Your parents were so cool to allow ALOT of us neighborhood kids to hang out at your home. May your wonderful memories of your Dad always comfort you and bring a wonderful smile to your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
