Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

DRACUT -- Byron J. Vlahakis age 83, of Dracut, a former longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 5, 2015 at the Mass. General Hospital in Boston with his loving family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Elaine "Susie" (Dokos) Vlahakis.

Byron was born in Lowell, MA on August 9, 1932 a son of the late James A. and Anna (Cutsulianos) Vlahakis. He was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1950. He also attended Boston University.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and had been a Military Police Officer in Vienna, Austria.

Prior to his retirement, Byron had been the owner of the former High Ball Cafe and 1600 Motors both located in Lowell, MA.

Byron was a Sports enthusiast, he loved long distance running and in his early years was an avid Boxer. He was also an animal lover and enjoyed spending his time both in York, Maine and Stow, Vermont.

He was a member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell.

Byron was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was passionate about coaching his grandson Andre and attending his sporting events.

In addition to his loving wife Elaine "Susie" Vlahakis of Dracut, MA, his survivors include: his loving daughter Sherrie Vlahakis and her partner Meghan Joyce and grandson Andre Vlahakis all of Concord, MA. His former wife and consummate friend Carrie Vlahakis of Lowell, MA. His sons: Jamie Yafa and his wife Evie of Kissimme, FL and Joshua Yafa and his wife Jacqueline and children Jacob, Sarah and Racheli all of Boca Raton, FL. His brothers-in-law: Richard Dokos and his wife Patricia of Lowell, MA and Michael Dokos of Boston, MA. Nephews: Nick Dokos, Bruce Brewster and Gerry Brewster all of Lowell, MA. Nieces: Lesley Cremmen of Boston, MA and Leah Dokos of Buffalo, N.Y.

Byron was also the brother of the late Leander Vlahakis who passed away on December 12, 1984.

VLAHAKIS -- At Byron's request visiting hours have been omitted. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend his Funeral Services on Thursday morning Dec. 10, 2015 at 10 o'clock at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA. Interment will follow at Westlawn I Cemetery, Lowell, MA. Donations in memory of Byron may be made to the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA 01854. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the ARCHAMBAULT FUNERAL HOME, 309 Pawtucket St., Lowell.

Growing up in the Acre on Suffolk Street, Byron is part of my childhood memories. He was such a dapper guy, often willing to treat the kids in Charlie's Corner Store to candy. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Byron, You will be missed by all. I met Byron years back when I ran a glass shop on Middlesex St. He was a great guy and over the years I would bump into him. Always a great sense of humor and smile. I will never forget him and will tell stories about him forever. Sorry for your loss.
