Diane E. Gielow, 93, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at 3:57 a.m. in Life Care Center of Michigan City.
Private family services will be conducted. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, Indiana, is handling arrangements.
She was born June 24, 1929, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Emil and Anna (Klaus) Meilstrup. On Oct. 22, 1949, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married Roger Gielow, who preceded her on July 23, 2002.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Rick) Hawkins of Michigan City, Indiana; son, Thomas Gielow of Port Charlotte, Florida; six grandchildren, Eric (Mandy) Morse, Andrew (Liz Berg) Morse, Sarah (Mike) Shore, Tim (Crystal Hodges) Gielow, Jim (Andrea) Hawkins and John (Jeannie) Hawkins; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gene Gielow of Michigan City, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cockapoo, Poppy.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Hyer; brother, Gerald Meilstrup; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Gielow.
Diane worked at Dunham Bush and Michigan City Area Schools. She graduated from Elston High School in 1947, where she was a Red Devil cheerleader and member of the Glee Club.
She was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Charity Circle, Fellowship Club and the Wednesday morning Bible study. Diane was a past member of the Vivians, Michigan City Women's Golf League, La Porte Elk's Women's Golf League and the Tuesday Night Rose Bowl Bowling League.
