James "Trees" Don Forrest, born on Feb. 14, 1945, in Gary, Indiana, left our world on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Miller's Health & Rehab in La Porte, Indiana.
Jim was born to Don and Dorothy Forrest, and grew up alongside his siblings, Hank (Barb) Forrest, Patty Loiacano and Nancy Boling. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Forrest; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Loiacano and Bruce Boling.
On Nov. 1, 2000, in the beautiful setting of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, Jim married the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" Koss. Their union was a testament to their enduring love, and together they created a warm and loving home.
Jim leaves behind his dear wife, Patty, and their children, Jacqueline (Troy) Charlton of Oregon, Don (Tricia) Forrest of Illinois, Kelly Koss of La Porte and Bart Koss of Walkerton. He was also a proud grandfather to Ryan, Brody and Dylan Forrest, and Evan and Emily Koss.
Jim had a long and fulfilling career at NIPSCO, where he worked for 40 years before his retirement in February 2003. After retirement, he began to enjoy life wintering in the warmth and sunshine of Sebring, Florida.
Jim delighted in watching and cheering on his grandchildren at their games. He also enjoyed golf and was an avid reader. His interests were diverse, but his family was always at the heart of everything he did. Known affectionately as a "big teddy bear," Jim's presence was a source of comfort and joy to those around him.
Jim's life was characterized by his kindness and love for others. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, always putting his family first. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, especially his wife, Patty, who will miss him dearly.
A private family service was held. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Patty, sending condolences to you and the family. Many fond memories of Jim. Sometimes working together and often times enjoying ourselves on the golf course or having a drink at the bar after golf. He will be missed.
