John Manigold, 77, of Michigan City passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 13, at The Arbors in Michigan City, Indiana.
John was born in Oklahoma City on Aug. 5, 1945, to Burt and Mary (Bicek) Manigold, who preceded him in death.
Prior to his golden years of retirement, which he spent traveling the world on various cruises and as a Floridian "Snow Bird," John dedicated 55 years to his career as an electrician and member of the I.B.E.W. Local Union 697.
Always a hard worker, John also served many years at McDonald's immediately following high school and rumor has it, his picture was on a mural in the corridor of the Franklin Street location prior to their last renovation. He shared many stories about his days as a McDonald's employee with his family and friends, further exemplifying his strong work ethic, a trait that he maintained even in retirement.
John was a die-hard, loyal sports fan, and win or lose, enjoyed cheering on his three favorite teams, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs and of course Notre Dame. John also enjoyed getting together with friends for bowling or card games and was well-known among his group of friends as a jokester. He was an avid eagle, flag and Jack Daniels collector.
In retirement, John and his wife Alta split their time between Florida and Indiana, and John was an active church member at Michigan City Christian Church (Michigan City, Indiana) and Christian Life Assembly of God (Brooksville, Florida).
John is survived by his wife, Alta Manigold of Michigan City, Indiana; his children, Annette Debald of Muncie, Indiana, Jonathan (Lora) Manigold of Lakeland, Florida, Missie Loomis of La Porte, Indiana, Jay (Mary) Killingbeck of Dayton, Ohio, Terry (Andi) Killingbeck of La Porte, Indiana, and Heather O'Laughlin (Phil) LeMasters of South Bend, Indiana. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Joseph) Gallagher (Hutchinson), Lorrin Hutchinson, Hannah-Renee (Nick) Becker (Debald), Zoren (Samantha) Baker, Audrey Orme, David (Jasmin) Orme, Tyler Orme, Christian Loomis and Justus Loomis; as well as great-grandchildren, Dominic Roddy, Carson Orme, Adelyn Orme, Thorin Orme, Saylor Orme and Jaxson Richardson.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Macel M. Manigold; and his brother, Richard Manigold.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Michigan City Christian Church on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. with time of remembrance from 10 to 11 a.m.
A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service.
