Maxine Dolores "Max" Edwards, age 81, of Chesterton passed away Aug. 9, 2025, at StoryPoint of Granger.
Max was born Sept. 16, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, to the late Clyde E. and Edna (Clytus) Evans. She was a graduate of Ivy Tech where she received her associate degree in the culinary arts, a field that reflected her love for cooking and creativity.
Maxine married John C. "Jack" Edwards on Oct. 24, 1997. They celebrated 27 years of marriage, building a life full of love and memories before Jack's death on May 1, 2025.
Surviving are her daughters, Deanna (Michael) Gaines of Ft. Payne, Alabama, and Marianne (Mike) Benac of Osceola; her grandchildren, Chad Miller, Kristen Miller and Brandon (Morgan) Benac; and her great-grandchildren, Jade and Brylee.
Max was employed as a dispatcher at ArcelorMittal Steel Mill in Burns Harbor for more than 45 years.
Outside of work, she had many hobbies that brought her joy. She loved antiques and collectibles, spending time reading, and caring for her flowers. A lifelong animal lover, especially dogs, she always had pets by her side and gave generously to the Humane Society and other rescues. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook and someone who found happiness in simple things.
Known for her kind heart, quick wit and warm sense of humor, Max deeply loved her husband, her family and her friends. Those who knew Max will remember her for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She cherished her family above all else and loved them deeply.
In keeping with Max's wishes, no formal services will be held. A private graveside service will be held as she and Jack are laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery at a later date. Her family invites you to remember her with kindness in your daily lives.
