Nancy Lee Conlon, 75, of Union Mills passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
She was born Nov. 6, 1949, to Harold B. and Phyllis J. (Wright) Allen, graduated from Tipton High School, received a B.A. in education from Ball State University and her master's from Valparaiso University.
Nancy made her career as an elementary teacher at South Central School for 38 years, having taught first, second, third and fifth grades. Children were her passion throughout her life, culminating with her own grandchildren who loved baking and reading with her and beating her at dot-to-dot nearly every time. As a child she enjoyed summers at the lake and her time at church camp. Getting together with her retired teacher colleagues in recent years became more and more meaningful as time went on.
On Aug. 3, 1974, in Tipton she married Thomas E. Conlon, who survives along with their daughter, Rachel (Robert) Easton of Valparaiso; sister, Lou Ann (David) Millett of Tipton; grandchildren, Taylor Lawrence, Zachary Conlon, and Rebecca and Clara Easton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jerry) Patrick, Mark (Patricia) Conlon, Julie (Keith) Roberts and Michael Conlon. She was preceded in death by one son, Bryan Matthew Conlon on April 20, 2024; brother-in-law, Thomas Burcham; and niece, Jennifer Millett Wood.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St., Wanatah, Indiana. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Jerry Schweitzer officiating, with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

I'm really sad I didn't hear about Nancy's passing. Just discovered it upon looking her up today 3 months later and wondering what became of her. She was my third grade teacher at South Central, 2003-04, and I'll never forget her kindness. I sporadically saw her through the years as my dad and stepmom also went to Sacred Heart Church in Wanatah, and a couple times she'd invite me to sit with her family. We briefly reconnected in 2021, though I lost contact after leaving Facebook a year later. Sad she didn't stay in touch, given what she went through in her final years. My deepest condolences to her family, especially her husband over the loss of your wife and son, I cannot believe the tragedy this family has recently endured. Rest in peace, Nancy, you'll be missed

I remember when she started teaching. She replaced another teacher who had passed. I was in 2nd grade. I remember her being a great teacher and more like a friend to her students. She definitely left her mark on our little community.

Nancy was a dear friend and colleague of mine. She had a great personality and smile. And she loved her students. She will be missed

I worked alongside Nancy at South Central for many years. She was such a true teammate. She made learning fun for her students, and her love for children always shined through. Nancy´s love for her family was always uppermost in her mind and heart as she shared stories of Tom and her together and her children and grandchildren. Nancy will surely be missed by many, but she leaves us with great memories.
