Michigan City, Indiana
Patrick J. Sullivan, age 83, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1942, in Gary, Indiana, to Jack P. and Anna (Hill) Sullivan, who preceded him in death.
Patrick graduated from Gary Wirt in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Army in June 1961. He served two years active duty state side as a medic assigned to a helicopter unit. After four more years in the Army Reserves he was honorably discharged in July 1967.
He married his first wife, Nancy Lincoln, in January 1969. They had a daughter, Lisa Ann. They built a house in La Porte, Indiana. Some years later they divorced. He spent years studying for his apprenticeship at Elihu B. Washburne Trade School. He graduated in May 1971 as a pipefitter for the Chicago Pipefitters Local 597.
He purchased a three-bedroom house just outside Michigan City in 1986. He then met and married the love of his life, Jacquelyn (Kuszmaul), on June 1987 in Michigan City, Indiana. She now resides in Chesterton, Indiana.
He was a member of the Michigan City Loyal Order of Moose and the Elks. He was an avid health club member and Chicago sports fan. He loved the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. He enjoyed tending a small orchard. He loved managing the 1 1/3-acre lawn by riding his tracker mower. He planted a small garden with all kinds of vegetables and melons.
He retired from the Chicago Pipefitters Local 597 in 2004. He then purchased a winter home at Coach Light Manor in Fort Myers. There he enjoyed water aerobics, shuffleboard, bowling and numerous card games. He introduced the Texas hold-em game to the other residents. It became quite popular. After 18 years and three hurricanes he said "That's it!" He sold the winter home and has spent the last three years in Indiana.
As his health and mobility worsened, he recently moved into Story Point Senior Living in Chesterton, Indiana. The two-bedroom apartment on the first floor with our own outside entrance was just what we needed. Patrick is also survived by his daughter, Lisa A. Harkness of Spokane, Washington; grandson, Brendan Harkness of Spokane, Washington; and five brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces- and nephews-in-law.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James and Charles Sullivan.
He will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him.

George McEwan
January 5, 2026
Two classmates here: Roberta Richardson McEwan and George McEwan, class of 61'. We both count Pat as a lifelong friend. Our circumstances took us in different directions. but we would reconnect at class reunions and also an annual get-together at Susie Lipschur Schulstrom's house in Punta Gorda.
We will keep his memory with us as we finish our journey. He will always be the Cinnamon Bear.
