Phillip Conaway, 80, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Nichols officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
Root Funereal Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Phillip was born on Sept. 1, 1940, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Dola (Taylor) Conaway.
On Aug. 29, 1964, in Michigan City he married Diana G. Turek, who passed on Sept. 2, 2006.
Phillip is survived by Jennifer (John) Hooper and Jason Conaway; three grandchildren, Madeline, Wyatt and Faith; one sister, Kay Hinshaw of Indianapolis; nephews; and many caring friends.
Phillip was retired from Bethlehem Steel after 37 and 1/2 years of service. He was the founder of the Duneland model Railroad club. Phillip was a train enthusiast and avid antique collector. He had a knack for making, building and fixing almost anything. Phillip was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1955. He served as Trustee, in the Finance Committee and as an usher. Phillip was a kind, quiet soul.
He graduated from Elston High School in 1958 and Indiana University in 1962. He was an Army Veteran. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Mary Anne and Judy, from Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
