Ralph Stark Jones, 92, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Ralph A. Jones and Alphild K. (Stark) Jones.
A lifelong resident of the area, Ralph graduated from La Porte High School, class of 1950. He went on to receive his baccalaureate from Indiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, the president of the Falcon Club and was a member of the IU Freshman Basketball Team. On Aug. 21, 1954, in La Porte, Ralph married the love of his life, Charlotte Lough, who survives.
After marriage, Ralph became a lieutenant in the United States Air Force serving as a B25 pilot. Upon his return to La Porte, he ran the Michigan City Recreation Bowling Alley for two years. When that sold, he became a purchasing agent for Berkel (U.S. Slicers). Ralph retired as owner and President of Towndan Enterprises (Town Crier).
He was a member of the La Porte Presbyterian Church, a member and past exalted ruler of the La Porte Elks Lodge 396, a member of the Masons, the Scottish Rite and the Orak Shriners Hospital. Ralph was also a past president for the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid La Porte sports fan, loved watching his "Hoosiers" play basketball, had eternal faith that the White Sox might someday win, and made a great effort at golf. His true passion, though, was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom will miss him dearly.
Along with his wife of almost 70 years, Charlotte, Ralph is survived by his three sons, Ralph "Chip" T. ( Susie) Jones of La Porte, Indiana, Jeffrey C. (Margaret) Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, and Gregory L. Jones of La Porte, Indiana; daughter, Judi L. (Brett) Alcorn of La Porte, Indiana; sister-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Cains of La Porte, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, Brady (Kevin Rasp) Jones, Kelly (Nate Santana) Jones, Amy (Roger) Jackson, Darby (Justin) Barker, O'Brien (Hannah) Alcorn, Austin (Elizabeth) Alcorn, Delanie (Bailey Walbridge) Alcorn, Charlotte Jones, Miles Jones, Kathryn Jones and Charles Jones; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Alphild Jones; and sister, Dorothy Jones.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana, where the family will receive friends from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. We were fortunate to meet Ralph and Charlotte through my Aunt and Uncle Dottie and Paul Cyrier who lived doors down from them on Indiana Avenue many years ago. When we lived in LaPorte we would see Ralph and Charlotte at numerous events and parties (They were alot of fun!) We saw them a few times over the years when we visited LaPorte from Mount Pleasant, S.C.
God speed Charlotte and RIP Ralph. You two had a wonderful life together!

To Char and The Jones Family;
Ralph and I were classmates at Indiana from 1950 to 1954 and Delta Upsilon fraternity brothers. Our most treasured memories with Ralph and you, Char were however in later years when my wife Gini and I got together with Ralph, you, Char and several brothers and wives for an an annual IU fall football game. That camaderie was special to us and were great times which we will never forget and forever miss. Throughout those reunion gatherings it became obvious to us `how dedicated Ralph and you Char were to your children, spouses and grandchildren - and rightfully how proud of them you both are.
Char, please know that our thoughts are with you and all your family in your loss.
Rest in peace Ralph - we will hoist one for you.
