Sandra Lucy Burr Faloon

Sandra Lucy Burr Faloon, 90, died peacefully on March 13, 2025, in her home.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1934, in Old Town, Maine, the third of five children born to Charles Allen Burr and Emma Letitia Hume. Sandra was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Carlton Faloon, with whom she shared almost 68 happy years of marriage.

An excellent student and member of the Howland High School girls basketball team, she was voted fastest talker, best scribbler and Miss Howland 1951. Curious, independent and motivated, she left Howland, Maine, for new opportunities in Connecticut where Ron soon followed, eventually settling in Rockville with their family of six children, Ronda, Terry, Kathleen, Brigid, Tracy and Megan.

Active in her neighborhood, community, and St Joseph School and Church, Sandra taught gym classes, volunteered for numerous causes, led a Girl Scout troop and was a proud member of NOW and the League of Women's Voters.

Never one to turn down an adventure, Sandra packed up the family and moved to Barrington, Illinois, in the summer of 1977 when Ron was promoted. A woman of great faith, Sandra once again served. As a Eucharistic minister at St Anne's church, she participated in scripture groups, volunteered at inner city churches, worked at the soup kitchens and brought communion to those at home. In 1990, Sandra went to work as a conference planner at the University of Saint Mary's of the Lake where she planned events and hosted a long and varied list of spiritual leaders, including Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and the renowned Buddhist Monk, Thich Nhat Hahn.

Retirement brought Sandra to Michigan City, Indiana, in 2000 where she and Ron built a wonderful life with new friends from Notre Dame Catholic Church and the Long Beach Community. An avid sun worshipper and snowbird for more than 25 years, Sandra could be found in the winter months reading and smiling in the sun in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, her favorite spot on the Gulf of Mexico. And summers brought a return to her home state of Maine, hosting whichever of the "kids" could make it and enjoying the cool breezes and incredible sunsets on Frye Island.

A lifelong reader, bridge player, "Jeopardy" fan and crossword puzzle aficionado, she belonged to book groups and libraries wherever she lived, always had a good book recommendation handy and loved a competitive game of cards, especially when she won.

Sandra was an excellent and generous cook, and consummate hostess. Everyone was invited, and never wanting to run out of anything, she often said that "she made enough food to feed an Ahmy" in her ever-present Maine accent. Her clam chowder, potato salad and apple and blueberry pies were legendary – and not just in her own mind.

Throughout her life she was acutely curious about the world, hosting numerous exchange students and traveling extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and Latin America with Ron and her family. She cared intensely for others, near and far, and remained open-minded and progressive in her thinking throughout her long life. She believed it was never too late to learn and continued doing just that until the day she died.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ron Faloon; brother, Charles Burr; and sisters, Barbara Chamberlain, Nancy Cote and Carole Ames.

Sandra leaves behind her children, Ronda (Rob Chandler) Faloon, Terry (Aili Randruut) Faloon, Kathleen (Tom) Murray, Brigid (Kevin) Tuley, Tracy Faloon and Megan Faloon; 10 grandchildren, Cole Faloon, Eden Faloon Rosen, Reece Faloon, Emma Chandler, Maggie Chandler, Thomas Murray, Devin Murray, Maeve Rogers, Maura Tuley and Michaela Emerson; three great-grandchildren, Maisy Spicher, Freeman Rogers and Ruthie Rosen; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends too many to count.

She eagerly gave and received love and was generous with her smiles, her time and her infinite amount of energy. She would be the first to say she was fortunate to have lived a full and happy life.

A Mass Celebrating Sandra's Life will be held at a later date at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Long Beach, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana, is handling the arrangements.
