Sharon Kay Schoff

Sharon Kay Schoff, 84, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2026, in the community where she was born and spent her life.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1941, in La Porte, to the late Lawrence E. Schoff and Sylvia Viola (Clifford) Schoff. A proud 1959 graduate of La Porte High School, Sharon embodied the values of dedication, perseverance and loyalty that would define her life.

An accomplished cellist, Sharon found great joy in music. She lovingly named her cello "George," and the instrument became both her companion and her voice, filling rooms with warmth and melody. Whether playing for her own enjoyment or sharing her gift with others, music remained one of her lifelong passions.

Sharon's work ethic was unmatched. She devoted 45 years of faithful service to La Porte Hospital as a lab technician, retiring at the remarkable age of 71. Her steady hands, sharp mind and unwavering commitment made her a trusted and respected colleague. She was also a devoted member of the La Porte Salvation Army, quietly serving and supporting her community in meaningful ways.

In her younger years, Sharon enjoyed playing softball and bowling, always bringing a competitive spirit and good humor to the game. She absolutely loved classic cars and proudly embraced her reputation as a "motorhead." A talented mechanic, she was never afraid to get her hands dirty and was often the one others turned to for advice or help under the hood.

Sharon was known for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and, yes, a bit of a stubborn streak that only added to her charm. Though she had no children of her own, she was "Aunt Sharon" to everyone. She cherished her many nieces and nephews – both biological and "bonus" – and delighted in watching generations of her family grow. She was also an avid WNBA fan who enthusiastically cheered on her beloved Indianapolis Fever, rarely missing a chance to root for her team.

She is lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces, her great biological and "bonus" nephews and nieces as well as her great-great biological and "bonus" nephews and nieces who will forever treasure her humor, guidance and love. She was a constant companion of great-niece Laura Swanson, of which they made a great team. Her cousin Debra Spencer was a great help to her in her later years as well.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Novak, Lawrence "Gene" Schoff, Kenneth Schoff, Ernest Schoff and Dale Schoff.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, La Porte. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Patton Cemetery.

Sharon's life was a beautiful harmony of service, strength, laughter and love. Her music may have quieted, but the melody of her spirit will echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
