James Dickinson Obituary

James "Lee" Dickinson Lansing James "Lee" Dickinson, age 65, died November 18, 2012 after a short, but courageous battle against lung cancer. Lee was born on January 11, 1947, in Flint, Michigan to William and Hazel Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-grandson, Cody Willard-Joblonski. Lee graduated from Clio High School in 1965 and was currently a crossing guard at Red Cedar Elementary School in East Lansing. He is survived by his wife, Melinda (Sharp) Dickinson of Lansing, daughters Jennifer (Kenneth) Sumler of Goldsboro, NC; Kristy (Marc) Joblonski of Haslett; son, Tom (Holly) Berriman of Mt. Gilead, NC; grandchildren Briana Barrs, Jaylen Sumler, Charlie Joblonski, Joey Joblonski; step grand-daughter, Kendyll Sumler; his "favorite" mother and father-in-law, Bill and Arlene Sharp of East Lansing; brothers-in law Brad (Lou) Sharp of Williamston; Dan (Shannon) Sharp of Eaton Rapids; best friends Terry (Teresa) Gillison of Lansing, Fred (Nanette) Kuhlman of Haslett; "kitty-kids" Madison and Chamberlain; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and the fantastic staff and students at Red Cedar School. Lee is a willed body donor to MSU and a memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial tree will also be planted in Lee's honor at Red Cedar School in the spring. Lee requested that memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warriors, Lansing American Legion Post 12 Higgins Lake cottage fund or the American Cancer Society ion his name. The family wishes to thank the RN's, CNA's, physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapists on 6 Newman and Acute Rehab at Sparrow Hospital, at Burcham Hills Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Great Lakes Caring Hospice and especially "special" RN's Kim Loomis (Sparrow 7 South) & Karen Roberts for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Lee during this difficult time.

James and I go back a long way. We were both on the Clio High School football team during those years when we were still trying to find out what the world was all about. At that time it was football, friends, and girls and it was a great time in our lives. Jim was a defensive back and I was a half - back. Our practices usually consisted of me running the ball through the defensive line and Jim would tackle me and rip my helmet off my head. It's a wonder I made it through high school. Jim was a great guy, I still miss those breakfasts and lunches that Jim, me, and Terry Gilson used to get together for. Jim was good people and I'm sure we will all see him some day.

Many of us at Red Cedar school just heard about Lee's passing yesterday. There was a profound sense of sadness all around. Lee always had a smile for us and our children and will truly be missed. We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Myself and Nanette would like to send our sincerest condolences to Melinda and the Dickenson family. I remember playing football on the junior varsity team at Clio High School with Lee and the lunches and baseball games we shared together along with Terry Gilson over the last several years. We all will miss Lee very much.

My most sincere condolences to Lee's wife and family. I have fond memories of the time that I spent at Clio High School with Lee . . . especially in the drum section of the high school band.
