Mary Bates Obituary

Mary Adelaide (Wonsey) Bates 90, passed away on June 9, 2014 in Dallas, TX. She was born on October 16, 1923 in McBain, Michigan, the daughter of Mark and Adelaide Wonsey. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandra Merrill (Duffy) of Pensacola, Florida; and son Tom Bates (Kathy) of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren: Gary, Brandi, Shawn, Melissa and Chris: three step-grandchildren: Kerry, Stacey and Stephanie; 23 great grand-children and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers: Lindy and Roger Wonsey and sisters: Virgiline Davis, Betty Robertson, Beatrice Miller, Eunice Bowers-Rose and Lorraine Salisbury. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Bates; daughter, Judith A. (Bates) Hickerson; sister, Roberta (Babe) Lowery; and brothers, Jake, Delbert and Ernie Wonsey. Mary was a resident of Six Lakes, Michigan and had many friends in the area. She was a long time member of Church of the Gentle Shepherd, Six Lakes, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 118 Center Street, Six Lakes, Michigan 48886. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Brigham Funeral Chapel, Six Lakes, followed by interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48906. A luncheon for close friends and family will be held June 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (prior to the service) at the Church of the Gentle Shepherd, 124 W. Bridge Street, Six Lakes. Condolences may be expressed to the family utilizing the guestbook on our website at: www.brighamfuneralchapel.com.
