Just found this obituary. Dick was my flight instructor back in the late '70s. Such an easy-going, professional instructor. As honest and friendly of man as you could hope to meet.

I remember one day, a student pilot was flying Richards Piper, N-9515K, which he leased back to the flight school for students. The student was practicing cross-wind landings, misjudged, and landed very hard off the runway. The impact actually bent the prop. Richard and I watched the event from the building. He remained so very calm, ran out to the plane, made certain the student was ok, then grabbed another aircraft and accompanied the student back into the air. His reasoning was that he wanted the student to end the day on a positive note - to help assure that the incident didn't end his flying.

After the student left the airport, Richard calmly walked into the flight school building, went into the office, closed the door, and let out a bloody scream! That was his own personal plane that had just been severely damaged. Tremendous respect for this man and his priorities. Belated condolences to his family and many friends.

Dick was my flight instructor back in the 70's in Grand Ledge.. A very nice person, and always thought out what he wanted to say.
