Joan Weldon

1929 - 2019

Joan was a resident of Idalou, Texas and had been living at Tanglewood Assisted Living in Lubbock since April 2013. She took her last breath, passing peacefully on January 31 after a long struggle with Dementia, and danced through the gates of Heaven. Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 13, 1929 she and her parents later moved to Euclid, Ohio. Joan graduated from Euclid High School and also attended business school, although her first loves were pageants and acting and dancing in Little Theater Productions in Euclid and Cleveland. Joan moved to Texas in 1968 and truly enjoyed being a Texan. She worked at Texas Tech University for 34 years as Administrative Assistant in the History Department retiring at the age of 72. She loved watching all sports, but especially football and the Red Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. While at Tech she loved helping the students and all of Daphne's friends and sorority sisters! After retiring Joan volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and was a Red Hat Lady which really hit her love of accessories and being dressed to the nines! Joan loved to have fun and loved road trips and shopping and Daphne often found herself being whisked away for a two day adventure. She loved annually attending JL Holiday Happening and would plan an outfit for days always including her signature scarf tied with a big bow around her neck! She was a 27 year breast cancer survivor and never let it slow her down! Joan married Billy Joe Weldon (deceased) on March 14, 1960 and is survived by her two children, Mark Weldon of Virginia and Daphne Weldon Fetsch and her husband Johnnie Fetch and grandson Jacob Fetsch all of Idalou, and she had a special love for all her nieces and nephews and sister in law Nadeen Dillard. Preceded in death by her parents Edward and Lillian Rammel, sister Donna Rammel Kamrad and her husband Billy Joe. Services will be Saturday February 9th 10:30am, St. Lukes Methodist Central 3708 45th Lubbock. Visitation Friday February 8th, 3906 96th , 5:30-7:00pm, Lubbock.
