DOUGLAS NORSTEN Obituary

DOUGLAS NORSTEN Douglas W. Norsten, 63, was called to Heaven Jan. 13, 2017, at St. Rose Hospital in Henderson, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born Sept. 22, 1953, in Washington State, was raised in Minnesota, and was a resident of Henderson for over 35 years. Douglas was the first born son to Harvey R. and Michi Y. Norsten (deceased). Douglas was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, and was the fleet manager at Chapman Las Vegas Dodge. Douglas was a competitive salesman and treasured his work. Among his many interests, Douglas had a passion for sports cars, boats, airplanes and amusement parks with roller coasters. Fast cars, football, NASCAR, golf movies and Disney animation were also among his interests and he liked to build his memorabilia collections. Animals and his beloved pets, cats and dogs were a big part of his life and love. Douglas was a very compassionate person and was devoted to helping people, animals and contributing to the greater good in his community. He is survived by his loving wife, of 40 years, Charlene; brother, Russell (Lynn) and sister, Sandra, both of Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Eleanor (Jeff) Sharp and Loretta (Scott) Brown; and nieces and nephews. Douglas will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched and will be forever in our hearts. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, with service following, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial following at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Charlene. I just found out about Doug. What a shock. I truely wish I would have know and had the opportunity to pay my respects. He was a good friend and we did some great things together at Chapman's. It always amazed me how people just flocked to him and wanted to buy a vehicle from him. I will miss him.

Charlene even though you and me did not know each other. I wanted to let you know that for me Doughy was my friend and I will miss him a lot. When I got moved into his office he hated the fact that I was moving in since he was by himself in that office for years.. he hardly spoke to me the first few weeks.. but once we started talking in a matter of no time he became my mentor. He used to stay to help me when I got busy without asking for nothing in return. I learned to loved him. When my son Christian started working here at Chapman he immediately open his heart to him and kept him motivated. The world has lost a great human being. I pray to God to give you the strength to go through all this tragedy. And I'm sorry that I did not attend his funeral but I just couldn't and did not wanted to see him there. It hurts just thinking that I'm not going to see him ever again. My deepest condolences to you.

Doug's service was very touching and we were grateful to be able to come down from Salt Lake City. Doug and I traded cars back and forth for many years. A simple phone call always turned into a long one, full of laughter and jokes and catching up on life. I treasured my friendship with Doug.

Charlene, we have never met but I knew you through Doug. He always referred to you as "my bride" and his love for you poured out in every conversation. You will always be his bride.

Our prayers are with you.

Charlene and Family, we've never met, but Doug was friends with my former husband, Ken, and myself. Ken and I divorced in 1989, and I believe before that, we lost track of Doug. I have always loved Doug. We had some great times together. I remember him being really rigid in thought, when younger, and had fun debating and traveling a few places together. He has always been in my heart ... he will always be in my heart. He was the BEST of the best when younger...I can only imagine how wonderful he was as he grew. I am so sorry I did not get a chance to reconnect with him. I am so saddened...my thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

I will always have a spirit of gratefulness toward Doug for his hand in molding my son into the man he became. For the nudge he gave him to ask out the cute little blonde in another dept who became his loving bride. My thanks to Dougie are forever. To Charlene may your lifetime of memories comfort you, bring you warmth & peace. XOXOXOXOXO

The Las Vegas fleet sales business lost a great guy.. Dougie you were one of the most fun people I have ever had the pleasure to do business with, you always had a joke, always had a big smile and most of all a heart of gold. There are no words that can express the sadness and loss. Dougie you are one of a kind and will truly be missed!!
