GREG ARMSTRONG Obituary

GREG ARMSTRONG Gregory William Armstrong, 44, sadly left us June 17, 2018. He was born January 1974, in Tampa, Fla., and moved with his family to Las Vegas in November of that year. Greg attended local schools and graduated from Valley High, where he was president of the senior class. He went on to obtain a degree from UNLV in 1996. He was employed by the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation for 17 years. Growing up, Greg loved sports. He played football, baseball, soccer and basketball. He also tried golf and spent thousands of dollars on equipment and apparel to look good on the course, in spite of his handicap. He first went deep sea fishing with his dad and grandfather in Mazatlan, Mexico at age seven. He returned many times. More recently, he ventured to Panama, where he caught several marlin that outweighed him. For 10 years, he went on three-day, long-range tuna fishing trips, leaving from San Diego. Gregory and Erika were married in 2008. Many of their exploits were legendary. For Thanksgiving and Easter they entertained 20 or more family members and friends with amazing dinners. They routinely had adult Easter egg hunts with plastic eggs containing significant amounts of cash. They added a new dimension to the term "Staycation" by inviting many friends to their cabana located at various hotels in the city. They also sponsored "Final Four" weekends at the South Point with many of Greg's Parole and Probation buddies. He and Erika often spent the night at the hotel to insure a prime spot in the sport's book at 4:30 a.m. Greg's sense of humor and wit will be missed by all. He loved to make those around him laugh, regardless of the circumstances. His sarcasm was mythical. He once accused his father (tongue in cheek) for making him watch "Deliverance." He also had a gift for quoting inappropriate lines from movies to make a point. He developed this talent at a very young age. In fact, he was almost suspended in elementary school for calling a classmate a "gob of spit." This was a classic line from the Marlon Brando movie, "One Eyed Jacks," that he was forced to watch many times by his dad. Greg is survived by his father and mother, James and Suzan Armstrong; his sister, Amy Lediard; his niece, Melinda Lediard; and two aunts, Linda Flatt and Blair Feazel. He will be sorely missed by many more. A celebration of life for Greg is pending. All who loved him will be notified of the date and time.

I don't know what made me google him ("Mr. Armstrong") but today I did ....saddened to find this news but I feel compelled to say I got into some trouble with the law awhile back (in 2008) I ended up doing almost a year in jail my first time I had ever been in trouble and Greg Armstrong was my PO when I got out....He was always super nice to me. I Got pregnant soon after I got out of jail and Mr. Armstrong was there through some big life milestones for me....a bad break up when my new baby was only 2 weeks old and I was having a hard time with just life in general and he took the time on one of my in home check ins to actually have a real conversation with me, like a friend/mentor. With real life advice and after I started crying he even made a joke to make me laugh and cheer me up. He left a mark on my heart I will never forget and I'm so honored I got the chance to cross paths with him, even if it was because of me being on probation.

Although I had not seen Greg since our 10 year reunion, I kept in touch with his life through social media. My heart is saddened to learn of his passing. I served in student council with him and was always inspired by his leadership and sharp accompanying humor. In high school we shared many practical jokes, including the time where Meggan, Meghan, and I (Megan) decorated his car with oreos and shoe polish. He took the joke well, as we had all been on the receiving end of his fun. He will be missed and I pray that the memories you have of him will get you through these unending difficult times. Sending sympathies to all who knew and loved him.

Greg was a high school baseball teammate! He would always keep the dugout laughing with his one liners! When my son was playing baseball in HS and College, Greg became his #1 fan, showing up for all his games. He will definitely be missed!

Amy, Sue and Jim I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences, prayers and thoughts are with you. Greg will forever be remembered and appreciated for his sense of humor and quick wit that always left me laughing or embarrassed. He never missed an opportunity to pick on me or bait me into his clever trap of witty repertoire that always ended with me regretting I'd engaged his banter. It took many years to appreciate and love our interactions.
