Mr. Monaco was one of the best teachers that I´ve ever had, that includes high school and college. He was a great teacher because he listened to you and always to help you with school work and also with your day to day problems in life. I was an all-state tennis player and later on an All American in college. Mr. Monaco followed my tennis accomplishments and when I would come home from college I would go see him at Western and tell him about my college life. He was always interested and would guide me in my life problems. He was a great man and helped a lot of his students

Mr. Monaco was the principal of Rancho High School when I was hired. He was kind and supportive of a new teacher who had moved from Michigan to teach in Las Vegas. In spite of being an afternoon teacher during doubt sessions, he still stopped by my room to check that all was going okay for me. He was positive influence on me and part of the reason I stayed in teaching.
My prayers are with the family at this time.

To the Family of Mario Monaco: In the 1960s, I remember Mr. Monaco as an umpire in the City of Las Vegas summer baseball leagues. I was a high school student, coaching a Midget League team and always felt relieved whenever Mr. Monaco would be assigned our games because of his calm demeanor, knowledge of the rules, and a good sense of the strike zone. After graduating from college, I returned to the Las Vegas area and crossed paths with Mr. Monaco numerous times as a high school coach, high school administrator and was always impressed with his calm demeanor, knowledge of the subject matter, and a good sense of those around him. I always considered him a role model, a man of high principles, and a positive influence in my life. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Bob and I would like to express our sympathy to Chuck and the rest of the Monaco family. Mario is a man we will never forget; we've laughed with him and sometimes we came close to crying with him. We are sad for the family, but not for Mario - we can almost hear Joanne saying 'Red, what took you so long?' He'll be missed by many!

A very short obituary for a very modest man with a mountain of accomplishments and a legion of lives he positively impacted! Mr. Monaco was my eighth grade teacher at John C. Fremont Junior High School in the late 1950s. He was kind and approachable, but a tough disciplinarian to be sure! He was a believer that you should come to school to learn, not to socialize or be coddled...and that we did! He cared about all the students in his classes and made all of us feel engaged in the subjects he was teaching. Of course, a man of his talents were quickly recognized and shortly thereafter he was appointed as an administrator becoming the principal at Rancho High. I only knew him from my time at Fremont, but he made a lasting impression about what what would be expected of an adolescent youth and how a dedicated and professional teacher ought to conduct a classroom. Those of us whose lives who were touched by their encounter with this giant of a man are eternally grateful! Thank you, sir, for a job well done! Rest in peace.
