ROBERT LEAHY Obituary

ROBERT LEAHY Robert Kevin Leahy, 64, of Boulder City, passed away, May 6, 2017. Born March 12, 1953 in Teaneck, N.J. to William and Gertrude Leahy of Saddle Brook, N.J., Bob attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. before moving to Nevada in 1980 to work for Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON). In 1985, Bob married Barbara Ross, also of Saddlebrook, and they had two children, son, William and daughter, Kayla, both of whom grew up in Boulder City, attended Las Vegas Academy and now reside in Las Vegas. In 1998, Bob joined the Las Vegas Valley Water District as a computer drafting technician. In 2009 he earned a long-sought-after engineering degree from UNLV, whereupon he promptly joined IEEE, an organization of professionals who develop global electrical and electronic standards. The onset of frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), an aggressive brain disease related to Alzheimer's, caused Bob to retire early from the LV Water District in January of 2014. Bob was a loving husband, father, brother to five siblings as well as uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was a devoted member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Henderson while he was still able to attend Mass. Bob enjoyed playing rhythmic Gordon Lightfoot songs on his guitar and he was an avid New York Giants fan. He loved to laugh and be in "good Irish humor" and he looked forward to occasional Sunday drives out across the desert in his beloved baby blue Genesis Coupe. His family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the following organizations who provided much-needed relief and support during Bob's difficult journey: the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for brain Health, adult DayCare Center of Henderson, Boulder City Lend-a Hand, Lakeview Terrace Memory Care, and CompassionCare Hospice. Donations in Robert's name may be made at www.theaftd.org by clicking on the donate button. The organization is dedicated to research, caregiver support and raising awareness of FTD. Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Boulder City, 1399 San Felipe Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005.
