RUBY MENDOZA

RUBY MENDOZA Ruby Riddle Mendoza passed away June 21, 2012, surrounded by her beloved family. Ruby was born in St. Louis, Nov. 26, 1924, to Sarah Marlen Riddle and Earl Riddle. She married a handsome Army Lieutenant, John F. Mendoza, of Las Vegas May 1, 1948, in St. Louis. Within a few years, her young family moved to South Bend, Ind., where her husband attended law school at the University of Notre Dame. Their second child, Donna, was born there. in 1951, after her husband's graduation, Ruby embarked on the adventure of her life - a move across country to the small town of Las Vegas. Ruby resided in Las Vegas from 1951 to 2012. Ruby was active in many service organizations throughout her life, such as Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Lawyers Wives, Legal Aid Society, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross Learn to Swim Program, St. Viator's Women's Guild, St. Joseph's Parents Club, Frontier Girl Scouts, Bishop Gorman High School Parents Club and a long-time volunteer for the Clark County Library. She was an outstanding swimmer, cook, seamstress and housekeeper. Ruby was also an avid reader. Ruby loved animals, especially cats. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; and her former husband. She is survived by her children, Victoria Mendoza, Donna Mitchell (Greg), Francisca Martinet (Bill), Jahn Ann Pepple (Jeff) and John F. Mendoza Jr.; six grandchildren; sister, Leila Marquis; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at St. Viator's Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road (Eastern and Flamingo). A reception will follow. Donations may be made to the Clark County Library and ASPCA.
