Yolanda Rosa Obituary

YOLANDA VENDRAMIN ROSA Yolanda Vendramin Rosa "Gigi," 89, a Las Vegas resident since 1961, died peacefully April 26, 2011, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, from complications of advanced age. She died with the same dignity she lived her entire life. She was born Yolanda Marie Giacometti, July 20, 1921, in Worthington, Ontario, Canada. In 1940, she married Julio V. Vendramin in Port Colborne, Ontario; and they had four children, Loretta (John) Thorndal and Bonita Newsome of Las Vegas, Diana (Wes) Herrick and Bruce Vendramin of Sevierville, Tenn. They lived in Port Colborne and Niagara Falls, Ontario, and emigrated to Niagara Falls, N.Y. in 1955. Upon becoming United States citizens in 1961, the family of six moved to Las Vegas. Her marriage of 28 years ended when her loving husband, Julio, died unexpectedly in 1968. She later met Clarence "CJ" Rosa while working at the Westward Ho Hotel. They wed in 1970 and moved to Palm Springs, Calif., where for several years, they managed the Palm Springs Westward Ho Hotel. They returned to Las Vegas and continued working at the Las Vegas Hotel until retirement. Her second marriage of 30 years ended when her loving husband, CJ died in Las Vegas in 2000. In addition to her four children, she is survived by her sister, Cynthia (George) Small of Niagara Falls, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Maria Giacometti and Norma Marielle of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and stepson, Duane (Lynn) Rosa of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who knew her as "Gigi" and extended family in Canada and the U.S. Besides her parents and her husbands Julio and CJ, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mario Giacometti; nephew, Richard Giacometti, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; grandson, Jason A. Thorndal; and great-grandson, Daniel J. Carbonell, both of Las Vegas. Yolanda was a spiritual, gracious and caring woman, who had compassion for friends and family. She was a member of Our Lady of Las Vegas Church for 50 years. Following cremation, her urn will be placed in the family plot at Palm Memorial Park - Northwest, Garden of Eternal Life, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., after private graveside services. Donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119-6718.

May 10 is Mexico´s Mother´s Day no matter what day it is on. It´s the day we chose to bury you. It seemed appropriate the year you died.

Our Mother´s Day this year is May 11 and you´ve been on my mind for many reasons. I recently saw a letter your sister wrote after your mom died. It was very emotional. So here I am...my mom gone, my aunt gone, my grandmother gone, and my younger sister gone. Missing you all. Love, your daughter.

I´ve really wanted/needed to talk to `my mommy´ these past few weeks. Too much happening. I´ve been thinking about how hard you worked when we were growing up, without all the modern conveniences we have today. I´ve just had a lot on my mind to share with you. Anyway, I miss you. Love, Loretta

Hi Mom, Remembering our family and life together before this terrible day...losing my dad...your husband...on Good Friday 55 years ago. Others have passed also but this was the beginning of a long sad journey for us all. This has been a tough year also but by the Grace of God, I´ll keep going. You were a good mom and example for getting through life´s unwelcome events. Love you and miss you. Loretta

You sure are missed, thought of every day and loved forever. It's hard to believe you'd be 99 today. You have given me such special memories. One of my most fondest is sitting on the swing with you on the back patio with the big yellow song book and would just sit, swing and sing...I still hear your lovely voice today. I love you Grandma and cant wait to see you again one sweet day. Happy Birthday! With love always❤, Lindsay

Grandma, I see your smiling face in the photos that hang on my wall. Such a warm and gentle smile. Just waiting to welcome you in.
But the smile in the photo does not compare to the real thing. I miss you terribly. I could use your advice from time to time. However, for once I am glad that you and many other family members are safe with our Lord Heavenly Father. Up there is a far better place for you all to be than down here. I love Yola :)

Happy Belated B-Day Yola. If you would have been 98 that means that the rest of us are getting old. I don't want ta get old. Isn't that what you would always say. Now I am the one saying it Speaking of getting older. Logan is now 13 and you would not recognize him. He is so handsome and tall. He is over 6ft. He towers over me and is taller than Greg. But he is quite a gentlemen. Always opening the doors for me. He gets very upset at us if we say bad words we get yelled at. He is wonderful. You would really love him...
We miss you lots GiGi All our Love

MOM, I know in my heart that you never gave up hope. Your many prayers paid off. This gives strength to me. I can never thank you enough. I love you and the heartache of missing you is very much. Mom...You missed my 70th birthday, of course. I could hear you saying you couldn't believe you had a 70-year old daughter. I didn't feel that old age approaching until you were gone. Suddenly I feel older. As long as you were 20 years ahead of me, I could see "far into the future." Now I see the future closing in on me. It's been almost a year since you left us and we all miss you. Not a visit goes by with Vanessa that she doesn't talk about you, to you, and kisses your photo. She laughs more now though remembering you. She was sad for a long time for one so small. Aunt Cynthia and Uncle George called to sing happy birthday to me. They never miss and I am grateful for that. Love You. Loretta

Thinking of you everyday. Ill never forget all the great advice and stories you used to tell me over and over again. I know them all by heart and even though there were times when I wished you wouldn't tell me the same story for the hundredth time, the truth is, I would give just about anything to hear your sweet voice telling me the story of how you got the stove you really wanted or how you got the furniture salesman to throw in the two lamps for free or you wouldn't buy the couch. I love you, I adore you and I miss you, you will always be in heart, you'll always be a part of me & Vanessa. I am still so heartbroken to have lost you, but I feel so proud and blessed to have known you. I want to be just like you when I grow up then maybe you can show me your wings one day and I can kiss your cheek and tell you I love you again.

My Grandmother was and still is my inspiration. She taught me morals and values that I attribute to her. She has blessed so many people in SO MANY WAYS. She was witty and fun-loving and could make anyone laugh on their worst day. She will always be apart of me and remembered everyday for the rest of my life. I can't put into words how much I will miss my Grandma. ~Lindsay Marie Brancato, Grandaughter.
