Billy F. Purser
June 11, 1922 - April 20, 2015
Cochran, GA- Billy F. Purser, age 92, died Monday in Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. in Cochran First Baptist Church. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Purser, a lifelong resident of Cochran, was the son of the late Jessie Oliver and Mattie Virginia Mullis Purser. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Charles Purser, Helen Purser Faircloth and Peggy Purser King. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base, owner and operator of Purser Laundromats and a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Cochran Masonic Lodge #217 F&AM. Mr. Billy loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a member and former deacon of Cochran First Baptist Church, former church clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, choir member and RA leader.
Survivors are his wife, Lilla Lee Lyles Purser of Cochran; children, Bill L. (Alexis) Purser of Charlotte, NC and Ellen (Danny) Mathis of Cochran; grandchildren, Amy (John) Shaheen of Indian Land, SC, Pam (Matt) Webb of Philadelphia, PA; Alan Purser of Atlanta, Dana (Andy) Perkins of Buford, Cal (Stephanie) Mathis of Cochran and Bo (Annsley Haynes) Mathis of Tifton; great grandchildren, Nick, Patrick, Matthew and Elizabeth Shaheen, Archer and Nixon Webb; Aden and Elin Purser, Emma Kate and Sawyer Perkins and Asa Mathis; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Bleckley Memorial Hospital, Bryant Health and Rehab and also Vivian Mays Jones for their love and wonderful care during Mr. Billy's illness.
The family is at 150 S Fourth St. and will greet friends after the service Wednesday at First Baptist Church.

When I think of Mr. Billy, I see him working in his garden in the lot beside his house, and behind ours. He would look up and give a little wave. In earlier memories I see him feeding yelping, hungry bird dogs in their pen. I have fond memories of Mr. Billy. He was a good man, and a good neighbor.
