Azle, Texas - Charles Stephen Ross, age 79, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
The family will honor Steve's memory at his home in Azle, Texas on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Friends and family are encouraged to share their memories on Steve's Facebook page.
Steve was born in Macon, Georgia, son of Wilbur L. Ross and Louise W. Ross. He graduated from Willingham High School and continued at Middle Georgia College. He served his country as a military policeman in the Army from 1966 to 1968.
His high energy and restless spirit led him to work in New York City and to make homes with his family throughout the Southeast in Atlanta, Wake Forest, Austin and Azle, Texas where he retired. His employment included Western Electric, HNTB, Baer Consulting, Delta Airport Consultants and Holt Consulting Co. LLC.
He is pre-deceased by his wife, Beatriz Ross; and sister, Charlene (Ward) Vanderhoff.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Allison (Joe) Thomas; sons, Zachary (Veronica) and Patrick; granddaughter, Madison Thomas; and sister, Cheryl Lee (Larry McDowell).

I was sorry to find that Steve had passed. We grew up together on Bloomfield Road and Bloomfield Drive in Macon, GA, and even went to kindergarten together at my Aunt's house. I lost track of Steve in the late 60s but never forgot him. I can still remember him saying that I got my freckles when I stayed out in the rain and got rusty. I have a lot of good memories playing ball and such from those days.

I was saddened to hear of Steve's passing. He was one of several boys who grew up together on Bloomfield Drive in Macon, Georgia. My memories are vague, but I'm sure he was not nearly as wild as the rest of us! God bless everyone affected by his passing.

My favorite memories of my cousin Steve will be of our beautiful childhood on Bloomfield Drive . I followed him wherever he went. I was his tackling dummy when we played football, we explored every crevice in the gulleys beside our granny’s house. And I carry a scar over my right eye,from riding on the back of his bicycle and of course we wrecked in a sand bed. But I carry it as my badge of honor and pride. Proud we had such a beautiful childhood and so many memories to cling too. I cherish our times together and our family memories. It’s a sad day in my heart. Steve and I have been friends for 50 years. Once you became a friend he was your friend for life and was the best about staying in touch over the years and across the country. Every time we touched base he would share news about the people we knew in common. I was always amazed on his memory and ability to recall stories from the past. He loved his family first and foremost and maintained close contact with all of them. I felt like I knew them simply by listening to his stories and viewing the photos he shared. I will miss my greeting on March 25 when he would have said “Happy Birthday Young Lady” even though I am not that young these days. A remarkable man that will be missed. Goodbye, good friend.
