Milledgeville, Georgia - Alan lived his life among his family and friend in vivid color. He was a son, brother, uncle, and most of all a great friend.
Alan was gregarious, had a flamboyant personality, and made friends everywhere he went.
"Everyone who met Alan fell in love with him on the spot," one friend said.
J. Alan Gibson died December 17, 2022, after a brave, long fight against cancer. He was 59.
Born September 20, 1963, in Tift Country to the late Dan Gibson and the late Maxine Brickle Gibson, Alan grew up in Chula, GA and graduated at Tift County High. He studied at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Valdosta State College and Georgia State College earning a degree in fine arts.
Alan lived most of his adult life in middle Georgia.
He was an artist. He was a painter, potter and graphic artist. His artistic works reside across the United States and Europe.
Alan worked as a graphic designer for The Union-Recorder, Macon Magazine and Macon Telegraph. He traveled the country redesigning Knight-Ridder newspapers before retiring.
He is survived by two brothers; Danny (Terri) of Macon and Brian (Judith) of Warwick, Georgia; and a sister, Dana, of Palmetto, FL; and his very close friend, Ronnie Peavy, and Ronnie's daughter, Kelli. He had six nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank several special friends and caregivers who stood by Alan, helping and providing care as his physical body failed him, especially Ginger McCullough, Brian Burgamy, Colleen Peebles and Lejuana Maze.
A Celebration of Life will be held January 14, 2023, at the Peavy Farm in Washington County. Family and friends are invited to join. Details will be provided. Express online condolences at www.williamsfuneral.net
