Warner Robins, Georgia - Bronze Star recipient and former Fire Chief at Robins Air Force Base, SMSgt. John David Carroll, USAF (Ret.), passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the age of 80.
Born in Washington, D.C. on February 18, 1942, John was the son of the late Philip and Evelyn Langtot Carroll. Fittingly, after being born in the nation's capital, he joined the United States Air Force. John spent 20 years in his military career, receiving the Bronze Star. John honorably served his country during Vietnam. After his retirement from active duty, he became the Fire Chief at Robins Air Force Base from 1985 until his retirement from civil service in 2005. Not one for socializing, John mostly kept to himself and was a stoic individual. He was an avid golfer, a sweets addict, and loved to read. His family was very important to him and he adored his dogs.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, David Carroll.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Barbara Carroll; children; Dean Carroll and Nikki Carroll; grandchildren; Whitney Carroll and John Barajas; great-grandchildren; Potter Blackburn and Lachlan Blackburn; sister, Lynn Meyer; and a host of extended family. He is also survived by his beloved chihuahua, Jasmine.
