Mildred Jones Purvis
December 15, 1938 - May 8, 2025
Macon, Georgia - Mildred Jones Purvis, 86, of Macon, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Funeral services to honor her life will be held on Monday, May 12, at 2:00 PM at Avondale Baptist Church, 6970 Cochran Field Road, Macon, Georgia 31216, with Pastor, Steve Smith Officiating. Immediately following, Mrs. Purvis will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
Mrs. Purvis was born on December 15, 1938, in Wheeler County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Lester Jones and Mrs. Addie Mae Evans Jones. She was a member of Avondale Baptist Church. Mrs. Purvis retired from Robins Air Force Base after 36 years of service, where she worked as financial manager. After retiring, she worked with her two sons at their businesses, Peachwood Products and Prototype Machine. A devout Chrisitan, she lived her life as a quiet testament to the teachings of Christ-never seeking praise, never demanding recognition, but radiating love and care in all that she did. She was the heart of the family - a source of endless warmth, strength, and unconditional love. As a mother, she nurtured with compassion, guided with wisdom, and stood by her children through every joy and challenge. As a grandmother, she brought laughter, stories, hugs that could heal, and a legacy of kindness that will echo through generations.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Purvis was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Fred Lee Purvis; sons, Gary Lee Purvis and Ronald Alan Purvis; and sister, Gwendolyn Purvis.
Left to cherish Mrs. Purvis' memory are her daughter, Debbie Hartley (Bob); grandchildren, Brooke Herndon (Chad), Brittany Hartley, Lee Purvis (Leila), Shelby Hall (Daniel), Heartly Purvis. Great grandchildren, Aubrey Herndon, Layla Hall, Tucker Hall, Garron Ragan, Layne Hall, and Bonnie Purvis; and sister, Sharon Ray (Chester).
The family would like to thank Georgia Hospice, as well as Mrs. Purvis' caretakers, Annie Evans, Rosa Williams, Wilfa Mae Heard, Janice Williams, and Brittany Dennis for the exceptional love and care they provided.
The family will accept flowers or if the donor feels led, the family graciously requests donations me made in Mrs. Purvis' honor to: Avondale Baptist Church, 6970 Cochran Field Road, Macon, Georgia 31216.
